LtCol Dennis Freyre “Tuck” Hensley (USAF retired) was privileged to serve for over twenty years on active duty in the Navy and the Air Force. After graduating from high school in 1980, he enlisted in the Navy and served as an Air Traffic Controller aboard the USS Midway. He received a Navy ROTC scholarship to the University of Southern California where upon graduation was accepted into Navy flight training. While in the Navy he flew H-53 helicopters and was an instructor in T-34 turboprop aircraft. He was later granted an inter-service transfer to the Air Force where he flew C-5 transport aircraft and T-37 jet trainers. Upon retiring from active duty in 2005, he gained employment with a major US airline where he continues to fly today. Over his career, LtCol Hensley received numerous awards and participated in various military campaigns and humanitarian aid missions; however, his most rewarding accomplishment was teaching future generations of Navy and Air Force pilots.
