Private William W. Withington (SN: 1679134) was born 26 October 1894 to Frederick Albert and Emma Fannie Hubbard Withington in Watertown, NY. He had two brothers, Dewitt William and William Ward, and one Sister, Betty May.
He would later enlist in the U.S. Army on 22 February 1918 in Adams, NY. He served with Company I, 306th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on 29 September 1918 in the Argonne Forrest in France. At the time of his death, he was married to Mrs. Laura Withington.
The medal was returned to PVT Withington’ s Great Niece, Mrs. Nancy Withington Del Borgo, a resident of Adams Center, NY. She is the daughter of PVT Withington’s brother, DeWitt Withington.
