George F. Nolan, Jr. was born on 21 May 1931. Just before his twentieth birthday, Nolan enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War with Company K, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. PFC Nolan was wounded in action on 27 March 1953 and discharged 11 April 1954. For his service and sacrifice, PFC Nolan was awarded Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal-Korea, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Airborne Wings.

PFC Nolan died 28 December 1966, and somehow, his Purple Heart went missing. Nolan’s family is not sure how the medal disappeared, but is thrilled to be receiving its replacement. The medal will reside with PFC Nolan’s son, George the 3rd.
