PFC Robert Sheddy Waters was born 17 December 1923 in Tattnall County, Georgia to Robert R. and Laney “Babe” Kicklighter Waters.  He would later enlist on 23 February 1943 to serve in the U.S. Army.  He served with the 4th Infantry Division in WWII and saw action at Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland.  He was wounded twice in battle on 22 June 1944 and 19 September 1944.  He would survive the war and later died on 06 November 1973.

His awards and decorations consist of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Campaign Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Combat Infantry Badge.

Over time, his medal was misplaced, which left his family heart broken.  Both Purple Hearts Reunited and the family hold hope that the original medal will be found, but in the meantime, a replacement medal was sent to his daughter in Statesboro, GA.
