PVT Starr W. Nivens (SN: 34778554) was born on 11 January 1909. He would later enlist on 10 July 1943 into the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Combat Engineers. While supporting troops on the front line, he was Wounded in Action on 06 October 1944 near Aachen, Germany. He survived the war and later passed away on 06 January 1966.

The medal was returned to his brother, Mr. Harry Clark Nivens, himself a Wounded Veteran of WWII. Harry served with the famous 101st Airborne Division and made the parachute jump into Normandy; he was wounded himself just five days later.

The medal was discovered by Mr. Kyle Wilson and his wife, who own an antique store in Orange County, CA. They acquired the medal through a lien auction in the area. They quickly turned to Purple Hearts Reunited to help find the family.

Welcome home PVT Nivens, it was an honor to meet your family!

This medal return was sponsored in part by a grant from the Purple Heart Foundation.
