SGT Gordon N. Coomer served in the Vietnam War in the Army Infantry and Special Forces. While in Vietnam, Coomer met his wife and began a family. He was awarded the Purple Heart and returned to the United States. His medal fell into the hands of a consignment shop after his death in 1995.

Thanks to a tip on social media, Purple Hearts Reunited was able to find and purchase the medal, locate Coomer’s son Timothy and forward the medal to him in Georgia, in order to honor his father’s service. Timothy Coomer said he moved to the United States in the late 1990s and has been trying to reunite with his father ever since. This medal and a photograph are the only memorabilia he has left of his father.
